The Police Authority and its Committees
In addition to the full Police Authority, a number of committees exist with responsibilites relating to specific areas of the policing service. The committees meet regularly throughout the year and are made up of various members, including a designated Chair and Vice Chair. The committees can make decisions on behalf of the Authority, or make recommendations to the full Police Authority.
Formal meetings of the full Authority are held regularly to assist the Authority in efficiently and effectively carrying out its duties, and to consider the Authority’s business.
These meetings are held in public and the press are invited. In special circumstances, for example where personal details of people or the terms and conditions of tenders and contracts might be disclosed, or where the investigation or prevention of crime would be prejudiced by publicity, some parts of the meetings are held in private.
All formal meetings are publicised in advance and reports and background papers are open to public inspection where the issues are to be discussed in public. Reasons must be given if the Authority wishes to discuss matters in private.
Please see our events calendar for details of forthcoming meetings.
